yes, Yes , Yes this does sound familiar,
First check the obvious, under the hood there is a white vacuum canister on the passenger side right at the fender. There should be a hose that runs along the fire wall and plugs into this canister. It has a check off valve on the top where the hose goes into it, if this check off valve is bad it will affect the center vents opening and closing during acceleration / load. Quick and easy fix. There is also another valve in this hose run that goes into the intake area with another off that line that goes in under the dash, check this for cracks. While your in there if you locate the problem think about replacing this vacuum hoses with a better quality hose than that from Autozone.......... something built for endurance.
This is a better place to start than under the dash, many people do screw things up under the dash when they replace their radio's with the after market crap doing a lot of damage, so if you see an after market radio n there that could be part of your problem. But try the outside first, I'm probably right.
