Mike,
Have you given thought to the added stress on the rack itself now that it's manual? With power assist, all the steering effort takes place inside that unit, below the pinion gearing. Now you're asking the pinion gear to do all the work. Is this not a disaster waiting to happen? Any manual steering vehicles I've experienced had a very low steering wheel turning ratio so you can actually turn the wheels when, say, parking. And doing a simple right hand turn meant a lot of revo's of the steering wheel. The 900 has a very high steering wheel ratio, which means a lot of pressure on the pinion gearing. Have you heard of anyone successfully driving this way for any length of time without a system failure?
