I'm hoping somebody here can push me in the right direction before some expensive Saab mechanic fleeces me. I have posted this on the UK site so apologies for anyone who has already read this.


1983 Sabb 900 Turbo APC Auto. The idiling is a little erratic especially when cold. Can drop quite low when in gear. When accelerating the move off and initial speed increase is desperately sometimes dangerously slow then picks up very
well after 1600 revs. This does tend to sort itself out when warm. I thought I had fixed it by putting in some stuff to clean the injectors and
tightening up a jubilee clip for one of the joins on the air intake. It was
a very hot day when I thought I had fixed it but again last night when it
was much cooler the problems showed up. I don't have the tools to check compression or a volt meter etc. The manual I have doesn't help me that much.
I did have a similar problem on a Jag XJS and that was down to only six of the twelve cylinders working.
I was thinking it could be the cold start injector. The only other thing is my APC gauge doesn't work.
I believe it is related to the idle speed. I did adjust it so it was high enough when warm. It can take quite a while for proper warm up and for the problem to go away enough not to really hinder me, about 5 miles usually. Initially it is dangerously slow coming out of junctions etc and I have to wait for large gaps in traffic before I can move. Some days its not too bad though.

Any ideas again appreciated for new owner. Please.!

I did test drive a 99 gls last night and that was much quicker off the mark. My car drives perfectly apart from this intermittent problem and has only covered 50,000 and has all services by a Saab dealership up to the 80,000 mile service.
