My 84 900T (CIS) would start up very quickly in cold weather, the 87 900T will also start quicker than 2 seconds...however, the 87 volvo 760T and 90 740T volvos start slower than the saabs. The 2000 Audi A6 4.2Q V8, however, starts RIGHT NOW!
The Audi board/list/forum indicates the Audi has a very aggressive (confirmed by Audi north america) injector setup for start...overfuels if you will. This has the downside of occasionally flooding the Audi cars (although it hasn't happened with our car in 25K and a year and a half) making restarts difficult if you happen to shut the engine off right away, like 2 seconds after starting it (forgot that latte on the counter, Jack?).
It's been my observation that the Saabs are very conservative in fuel injection during start...they don't double the fuel, it seems as if the only way to really start them fast is to trick the NTC sensor into thinking it's cold outside...if it really bothers you, just wire a switch and a resistor (you've already figured out the resistor) into the circuit and use it manually. Put a small LED in the circuit to indicate the NTC is boogered in case you forget to turn the switch back (or push button?) and you're golden.
