In order to remove the glass from the seal the glass must be pushed out from the inside. If there is any sort of crack or chip in the glass they will spread 99.9% of the time. Do not use any sort of metal object in attempts to pry the glass from the outside. The way around breaking the glass in removal is to cut the seal with either a glass knife (air/electric/hand) or piano wire/glass wire. If you didn't drive the parts car in the past....MAKE SURE!!! that the glass isn't so badly pitted that you can't see through it in the sunlight. Used glass isn't worth the $97 savings (Glass Depot Price for new glass) if you can't see through it. The seal is $76.00 and is just the same as OEM.
If the glass that you have is really good then I would suggest cutting the seal with the above methods and either:
1. Buy a new seal for $76.00 ( Pricing comes from Spalding Auto Parts, Inc. 800-366-2070 #2) (Glass Depot WA State 509-536-9577)
----------------------------OR------------------------------
2. Get a good used seal from a wrecking yard out of a car with a removed windshield. If you are really desperate take one out of a car with a broken windshield, but MAKE SURE there are no rips or tears in the seal and MAKE SURE that you get every little piece of glass out of the seal before installation.
I've been doing this for quite a while and if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.
