Been having the same problem for a couple of years now in the summer. New battery cured it for a while. So did cleaning the ground connections. I've got a feeling that the alternator ground is ineffective and that this has something to do with the trouble, but a guy at the shop told me that this was not the problem and that I needed a starter. I didn't bite. This was two years ago! I'm just afraid that the one time the car dies for good'll be on my way someplace important. But I don't want to pay anyone $60 an hour to tell me I need a starter.
I used to drive a VW and I remember a company making a product that they called "Massive Overkill Wiring Harness" that was just a heavy gauge alternator to (- terminal) on battery cable. I rigged up something similar on my VW and it fixed the charging problems. Is there a reason this can't be done on the Saab?
