Not your knock sensor, which only cuts boost and does not retard timing.
-Is your distributor loose on its mount? Check your timing with inductive timing light. 16BTDC at idle with dist hose plugged at dist end.
-You did not mention check engine light. Pull codes anyway, the connector is under rear seat, and follow Bentley or townsendimports.com procedure.
-If your idle is high or erratic, suspect vacuum leaks. If you can't find any visual vacuum leaks, get a propane torch, turn on (don't light!) and with engine running, see if idle increases when gas is directed to intake plumbing, intake manifold gasket, and around injectors (bad o-rings).
-Has your fuel filter been changed...ever?
-Can you hear your fuel pump buzzing over the noise of the engine?
-Check temp sensor(below intake manifold) resistance per Bentley manual.
-Clean all ground connection to shiny bright and check for corroded ground wires near connectors.
