Just did passenger side. The horizontal seam had split. Now looks almost like new with slight dimpling that no one would notice but me.

The only real problem concerned the fabric sleeves that the steel rods go through(there is an official name for this rod frame, but i forget). Anyway, the fabric channel rots/tears and I have not found a car upholsterer willing to put in new fabric channels. They might do it if they have to pull all the panels apart. This time I did get one to put in a new strip of edging with a built in cord under which I fastened the little hooks to pull the seat back down on the pad. This corded strip can be sewn against all the seams even if the seat panels have not been pulled apart and resewed from scratch. Some upholsterers will tell you to forget about it and just put the cover back on without the steel rod/hooks or glue the cover right to the pad. Do not accept this approach because the seat will not look right without the rod or the corded edging for the hook fasteners.
