Only try to do one job on your SAAB at a time. That way if somthing is not right you can pinpoint it much easier: I cleaned my car and then replaced the steering belt. Who designed the bolt sizes on the pump? 13, 15 and 17mm!?! Can't get a ratchet on, can't get an offset spanner on. Jeez, I had half my toobox on the engine just to undo the nuts.
Had to take the pump off to remove the old belt, then there was no way the new belt was going to go on. I had to put the pump back on with the belt around it and then turn the engine over to get the belt on the crank pulley-not much room at the back of the engine, is there? I can see why the alternator belts give so much hassle.
Anyway, my point is that I went for a short drive 'round the block and every time I turned left I could hear a scraping/rubbing noise, like a belt rubbing. Got back home, opened the bonnet, didn't seem to be anything wrong. It was then that I noticed I had left the mudflaps pushed forwards to clean them and the bottoms of the wings. They were catching on the tyres.
Problem solved, but the more you take apart at one time, the more can go wrong.
Useful sermon for the day.
