My experience was that the car died in the middle of an April snow storm. I was 180 miles from home, and 50 miles from the nearest Saab dealer. On a Fridya afternoon. Had it towed to the Saab dealer (thank God for AAA+). Had to leave it for two weeks. They were an everything dealer. Saab, Volvo, Pontiac, Suzuki etc. There "one and only Saab mechaninc" was going on vacation and would be gone two weeks.
My car a 93 900T has a different pump than yours, roller rather than rotor, and they changed the whole thing. Main and eductor. I checked the old pump out when I got it home. Electrically dead. the whine you hear must be related to the electric motor. I had been hearing the whine for some time and let it go. My hought is you should get it fixed before you're stranded somewhere at an inconveniant place at an inconveninat time.
