You really can't free it up from the outside. Grit and/or rust has gotten stuck in the piston itself, and that has to come out. As the wheel turns, it pushes the caliper back just a little. If grit has gotten in and the piston sticks, then instead of pushing the piston back, you just heat the whole thing up. If you notice a lot more heat coming from one wheel than the other when you stop, that's a sure sign of a dragging caliper.
I just went through this with my 9000. You face two choices- either rebuild your present caliper, or replace it with a rebuilt unit. Either way, you'll need to remove the caliper.
You can buy a rebuild kit for your caliper for about $15. No big deal, just a little messy. It does help if you have some special tools to hone the cylinder if it looks scratched up.
Frankly, I take the lazy route. I buy a rebuilt caliper. My local autoparts store carries Saab calipers (most decent ones do)- I think I paid about $80 or so. Actually, it costs about $130, but when you give them the old caliper back, you get a $50 core refund. This system works well because the car is down for the least amount of time.
If you remove the caliper and open the brake line, you'll have to bleed the system. If you haven't flushed the brake fluid in a couple of years, now's your chance.
Good luck!
