In my '84 I took a can of spray adhesive and the nozzle and straw from a can of penetrating oil and matched them. I then took a ballpoint pin and poked a bunch of holes into the headliner material. This was all on a roadtrip and was a last ditch effort but it has held up for the last couple months just fine. I could have done an even better job with the proper tools and time. I've thought about trying some sort of syringe method next time. Maybe an irrigation syringe like the dentists give you when your wisdom teeth are removed?
