this should help to fill in some of the gaps from my first post.

my sub is a 10" jensen (nothing special). it is mounted in a box where it is set back inside by about 4-6" or so. on the front of the box is a plexiglass cover which is screwed into the box. on the top back of the box is a circular open hole (port?). the amp is a kenwood 250w max which is 2 channel bridgeable to 1 channel. i have the gain on the amp turned about 1/8th of the way up, the low pass filter on, and the stereo vs. mono mode selected to stereo. the box is about 16" cube with the front (plexiglass cover) slanted about the same angle as the seatback in the 3dr hatch. in fact, it slides right up against the seat back quite nicely. i don't know if the box is specifically "tuned" for the speaker, i bought them as displayed on the showroom floor. i am not using monster cable as i probably should be and my wire run goes from under the driver's rear seat into the trunk, only about 2-3 ft max. i run the power from the battery, to a dist box under the rear seat, to both amps (under pass and driver's side rear seat). the head unit powers the stock location front and rear speakers, the first amp powers the 5 1/4" in the doors, and the second amp powers the sub.

does this set up toss any red flags as to why i may be getting more boom than punch on the bottom end? i'm no stereo buff, and didn't go for the top of the line equip (still paying off the engine mods), but just wanted to fill out the bottom. the box and speaker were both on sale and went for about $60 a piece. any more ideas? thanks...
