Hi all,
My first post to the Saabnet; I've been lurking (and learning) for
a while. I've got a series of questions which I'll post
individually. This is just a backgrounder.
I've got a 1988 900 base (last of the 8V's) w/ 150k miles. I've
been tweaking it to run better and better. Replaced most suspension
bushings, new shocks, new tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE-950 : *very*
nice) ball joints, pwr steering rack (no more drooling and whining !),
cold air induction (see subsequent post) and R134 A/C upgrade. Thanks
to all the helpful people who share their knowledge!
One unfortunate consequence of all the improvements (especially the
cold air induction) is that I've started to get a sense of just what a
nice 900 can do with a little more power. So on a lark I bought a
"parts" car : an '85 900 turbo 16V. The car was running extremely
well when a large rock in the middle of a field smashed into the
tranny. The owner's teenage daughter was quite suprised by this, I'm
sure. Anyway, the plan is to pull the engine, spruce it up a bit, and
drop it into my own car (although it's the base model, it's in really
nice shape; the Turbo's not bad, but a little rough around the
edges.)
More to follow,
Jeff
