In the '60s, Studebaker had a carburated supercharged R-series engine. The carburator was in a pressure-sealed can. But it also had a V-8 manifold that was designed for a carburator. I don't think that the floats in any modern carb are rated for the pressures you'd be seeing from a turbocharger. And, if you didn't put it in a can, it would be squirting gas out of every orifice under boost. I'll leave images of this up to your imagination :-)

The logistics of trying to stick a carb onto a 900T are difficult. Open up the hood and think about where you'd mount it. Think about the custom aluminum welding you'd have to do on the intake manifold. It's not impossible, but it's not cheap.

I don't mean to be unkind, but I think that you'd spend less money and get better results buying a used V-6 or V-8 car than trying to cobble up a custom carb setup for a 900 Turbo - which wouldn't work all that well anyway after you poured all that money into it. Not to mention trying to get it to pass emissions inspection (if your state requires it.)

And, not to be unkind again, there are some people who have put a 350 with a 4-BBL in a 900 - but they've converted it RWD. Basically they've converted a finesse machine into a brute force machine.

If you really want to drive a SAAB and get the most out of it, take the time to understand how the LH fuel injection system works. It's really pretty straightforward and you can always ask questions on how it works here on TSN - we've got a lot of regulars that know it really well.

Besides ... SAABs are better ;-)
