The button hooks up to a semi circular plate, hinged in the center. The connecting rod from the button attaches to one corner of the plate, and the other corner engages a rack. Sometimes the plate can rotate, pulling in or pushing out the button. On my 900S, the button was sticking out an inch or so, but this worked and would be worth a try:
Have a friend sit in the back seat and pull up on the handle until it's practically straight up. This clears the plate of the rack. If the button doesn't pop back, reach in underneath (you may have to move the bottom cover, just pull it down) with a flat screwdriver and rotate the plate until the button is where you want it. Press the button, and put the handle back down. I'd be interested to find out if this method works for the depressed button as well as my "hyper-extended" button.
