2 or 3 cans for an R-12 recharge on 900?

I'm going to get my A/C worked on soon. For anyone who doesn't remember my story, it's been evacuated already (well, vented is more like it) Thinking of trying Doc's Motorworks up in Austin based on a couple recommendations. I spoke to them today and they said I should expect the following:
$65 for labor
$10 for some leak detecting dye
$65/can for the R-12
They told me the system usually takes about 2 cans. The sticker says system capacity is 1kg = 2.2lbs = 34.2oz. I know the cans are 12oz, but is that 12oz by volume or by weight? If by weight, seems like it should need 3 cans.
Also, they didn't mention anything about oil (and I forgot to ask). How much should the system take? I know the oil's supposed to come out when you vaccuum evacuate it, but what about when it was just vented? Think my oil vented out too, or is it likely clogged up somewhere in the loop?
I'd really like to get it right this time. Thanks all,
'Roo
