Passenger's side clunk when braking hard, chirping over bumps

Hello All,
This is a real online community and not just a web site, something really rare on the net anymore. I've learned a lot the last year reading posts and searching the archive. Thanks.
The car is an 89' with an AT and 101K. It just passed PA state inspection and the guy who's been working on it said not to worry about the clunk. Another friend of mine said replace the shocks, but the shocks seem to be working. The car doesn't bottom-out or float. I read about the lower shock bushings, but it doesn't clunk going over bumps, it only clunks on the passengers' side when braking. As for the bumps, the suspension chirps all around.
Thanks for the help I've recently taken slight mechanical matters into my own hands because I'm in Delaware for graduate school and my Saab mechanics are in PA. I've been getting my parts at Sports Car Service in wilmington, and they're nice people, but it's impossible to get your car in for repairs unless you bought it there.
