Bad Heater Control Valve - fairly common...

Coolant passes through hoses in firewall to heater control valve, then to heater core for interior heat. The valve is at the firewall beneath dash (visible from left speaker hole), and leaking coolant drips down onto your feet.

You can fix it yourself if you're so inclined, but be warned, it's a pain in the butt: it's a very tight space in there, and you need to remove the knee bolster.

If you decide to do it yourself, I recommend the following:

1. Use an OEM valve, available least expensively from Saabnet sponsors.

2. Do a thorough search on this BB for "heater control valve", etc., as well as "bolster", "knee bolster", etc., to collect as much information as possible about the task. The bolster is kind of a pain, but not the worst task in the world.

3. Unless you are small, have thin arms, and are very mechanically inclined, ignore any advice about doing this repair through the left speaker hole - only the pros can do it this way, apparently. Most people do it from beneath...

4. If you don't have a Bentley repair manual, get one.

5. Print the Saabnet FAQ (link below)
