my transmission is shot. it has problems in almost all the existing gears(no more 5th), and whine loudly. my question is how much have people paid for installation and tranny. are rebuilt ones any better than the originals. i have an '87, so it had the weak pinion bearing, i believe. maybe i could get it rebuilt w/ a bigger bearing(saw it on SPG9). how much would all this cost? also, do you really have to pull the engine to do the tranny? that seems pretty ridiculous, since it's one the bottom. one more thing, my odometer stopped a while back and if i'm not mistaken, it runs off something transmission-related, so i could have this done or do it myself at the same time as the tranny, right. sorry for the stupid questions, but my high paying summer job is coming to an end and my transmission isn't getting any better.
