I did:
1.Change the oil, within a day or two of departure.
2.Check your tires for inflation as well as tread depth. Change 'em if at all suspect. DON'T FORGET YOUR SPARE... Last thing you want to discover when you get a flat, is a flat spare...
3. Check all your fluids. Coolant, washer, oil(redundant), brakes...
4. Check all signal lights, head lights, fog lights.
5. Check your brakes. Change the pads and rotors if at all suspect. Also check your brake fluid, and brake hoses. If suspect, change 'em.
6. If you're at all mechanically inclined, put a basic tool set together and have it readily available in the trunk -- DON'T BURRY IT UNDER LUGGAGE...
7. And finally, make sure the car is in tune. As you cross the mountains, the thin air will have an effect on the performance. I'm fortunate in that I have Trionic, and it automatically adjusted for high altitude pressure density.
Good luck and drive safe. Let us know how it goes along the way!
