'88SPG-New 82 DegreeThermswitch & T-Stat-Still Running Hot

New to me '88 SPG/170K. Upon recent purchase and noticing dash temp guage running 70%-90% toward red when stalled in traffic, double checked fan switch by jumpering fans to get both fans running-this is ok. I installed new (cooler-82 degree) radiator thermoswitch and and T-stat. Acc'd to mechanical records, radiator is fairly new-2-3 years. Temp guage is still showing from 50-70% of temp line. When I did this same proceedure to my '86 900T, it took care of the problem and temp guage nevers goes over 50%. Did I miss something on the '88?. Could temp guage be bad, anything else I've missed??
