Hmmmm..... most likely this problem is with the type of pad/rotor set up that you currently have on the car. The previous owner likely put on aftermarket brake pads (and who know, maybe even rotors too!)and the frictional material (i.e. the "pad" stuff on the brake pad) doesn't mesh nicely with the rotor when the brakes are applied. This is not really a big deal if you don't drive aggressively. For myself, I like to have original Saab rotors and pads on my 900 as they mesch nicely together when breaking. Gives me the braking performance that I like. For yourself, if the budget is a concern, I would just make sure this brake problem of yours is not a safety issue. In other words, that the front rotors are with in a minimal thickness and that you have enough frictional material on the brake pads for breaking. When the time comes to replace the pads and brake squeeling is a concern, look into a compitable pad/rotor set up.
