As Ed S says, clean the switches first. Read his post. The switches assembly pops right off the console. If that doesn't help...
I've only taken the panels off '87 & '88, but it's pretty straight forward. Remove the lock knob. There's a couple of screws by the pull handle and a couple molding fasteners on the bottom corners. There's also a screw for the piece that indents the panel for the opener handle. I'm not in front of the car, so I don't remember exactly. Anyway, it's not many.
Once you've got them out, lift the panel up over the lock knob screw and off. Then you'll see a piece of foam type material taped or glued over the center of the door. Carefully peel this off and save it. Now you'll see the window mechanism. If it's gunky where the arms pivot and slide, I personaly, and some will disagree, spray it down first with Liquid Wrench to loosen everything up and clean out the gunk. See if the window works better. If it gets gradually better, keep working it so the gunk works out of the pivots and slide. Then wipe it down good and apply a layer of lithium grease (non-conducting, water repellant). As Ed S says, check the drains in the bottom of the door while you're there.
Now, tape the foam piece back over the cover. I use duct tape because I'm a guy and that's what guys use. Put the door panel back on, making sure the clips on the back engage the door frame and the lock knob screw is sticking through the hole. Put all the screws and fasteners back in. TaDa!
