Sounds like pinion bearing failure. Changing to Redline may or may not have contributed. Townsend Imports does not have good things to say about Redline MTL, but other folks swear by it. I'm underwhelmed.
The transmission will come out the bottom (e-mail me for details). It's significantly easier than pulling the engine, particularly if you're doing it in your garage. No special tools that can't be easily fabricated are needed. Whether you rebuild yourself is your choice. Given that you've caught the problem early, rebuilding is probably a good option whether you do it or have someone else do it. Ericksson Industries can provide parts as can some of the other vendors on the BB.
GregD would be a good person to consult.
