Just had the head machined after the head gasket blew out. Cost me over $800 repaired by my RELIABLE and trustworthy saab dealer. They even gave me $300 off labor due to the amount of time for the repair. The question I have is this:
The engine initially overheated due to a bad water pump with leakage of all coolant. Dealer replaced the water pump. One week later, the engine overheated again. This time several hoses were replaced and the thermostat was replaced. Three days later, smoke from exhaust and head needed repair. The time sequence of all of these problems was very worrisome. Dealer tells me that damage to the head was due to overheating and was not foreseeable at either time the engine overheated.
On top of that they replaced the thermostat twice.
Is this just all bad luck. I was a bit surprised by the bill even with my discount!!!
