I just looked at an 86 S-model, the 92 S-model in question and an 84 900 8 valve.
The 86 S and 92 S seem to have the new type of front mount, which has the U-shaped piece that bolts to the rubber mount and in turn bolts to the frame. That U shaped piece is the one that often breaks.
The 84 8-valve 900 has what I think you meant my the “solid” mount. The rubber mount is bolted directly to the frame. There must have been some disadvantage to this, but I understand that the old mount never breaks and the new type mount often breaks. Oh well.
Anyway, since both transmissions come out of 16 valve cars I am sure there is not problem with the mounts. As I said, they look identical.
Still waiting to hear if there is a clear problem with the different ratios.
