of the new sound system I installed in my car the other day. In my original 82 n/a I didn't have a radio/tape/cd system at all. Odd considering how much I enjoy tunes when I drive. I did use my walkman a lot, but it's not quite the same, and I have been pulled over for using it. Appearently a big no-no here in CA. Just before buying and setting about a restoration of another 82 (turbo, this time), I installed one of the original (vintage 1985, garage sale special) SONY car CD/tuner systems. And for two whole days i enjoyed that until it suddenly quit. Cut to 8 months later and a new Pioneer CD/tuner is up and running, pumping hot raw sounds to four speakers. What I notice while driving now with an awesome sound system is that I no longer listen to the engine noises. I no longer have a sense of speed. Fortunately I lean more toward the slower side of the scale. And I forget to downshift when approaching stop lights. Sometimes I even forget to push in the clutch when coming to a stop! All because I can no longer hear the engine. I can't because of Def Leppard, Cracker, Damn Yankees, Crue, AC/DC, Rush, Yes, Deep Purple and others pounding away in the car with me!
Here in Los Angeles I must be the most out-of-date retro guy on the road - I drive a restored vintage 80's car, I listen to vintage classic rock at stadium concert levels, I have a feathered Don Johnson-esque hair cut.
