As others have said, Saabs are great cars and reliable *if* you take care
of them. I bought mine ('88 900 8v) for about $2500 (kinda high, I know)
and drove it for a year just hoping it wouldn't die on me. Then my eyes
began to open. I replaced some worn out suspension bushings, replaced the
nearly bald tires, added antisway bars (from a junkyard) and the thing
started to act like a really classy car.
I'd say the best approach is to think of your Saab as a $30,000 luxury
sports car that someone else has broken in for you. Plan on putting
*some* money into maintenance and repairs. If you apreciate the car and
get to know it these will most likely be pre-emptive in nature, not
roadside diasters. And when you pay for these little maintenance items,
compare your expenditures to the $400 per month others spend on a LEASE !
Best of luck,
Jeff
