I am assuming this is a 16v car.
If that's the case, the yellow wire should go to the key! If you jump the yellow wire straight from the starter solenoid to the battery, it has the same effect of you turning the ignition key to the Start position.
On older cars, I found these wires go bad and need to be replaced, but on a newer car I'd be more suspicious of the ignition switch itself. Easy test is to get a DMM and connect the (+) to that yellow wire and the (-) to a good ground and turn the key. You should get battery voltage, which is 11.8v more or less. Next pull up the shift boot, and remove the two screws which hold the middle console's top piece down. Pull up that top piece and you'll have access to the switch itself. Find the big fat yellow wire (which I think is terminal 50 - Bentley can tell you for sure) and test there. That'll tell you if it's the switch.
That wire goes straight from the switch, up the middle of the car, across the firewall, and out into the fusebox. It's a snap to rerun if you do have a bad wire. If it's a bad switch, a lazy man's fix would be to get a big red button, a 30a relay and make yourself a starter button. That might be cool to have anyway! :) Otherwise, ya gotta replace that switch.
