If your Saab EVER mis-fires steadily, park it. It doesn't take a bad heat shield to result in a fire. My rear muffler was bright red and the undercoating sagged onto it and ignited as did the hangers. All in 1 mile of running on 2-3 cylinders. The water that kills you is that gets down around the plugs in the 16v head. I've washed several engines since but I'm much more careful.
20 ft isn't far enough for your rescued valuables, either, so don't feel bad. What the fire doesn't get the firemen and their hoses will.
