Sounds like you have a short somewhere. Do this:
- remove the negative battery cable, and use a voltmeter (switched to measure AMPS) to measure current draw by attaching the red lead to the positive battery terminal and the black lead to the removed negative battery cable. If there is a measurement of AMPs, then there is a short somewhere, and that is draining the system. To find it, leave the voltmeter leads attached, then remove each fuse in turn. You'll be able to find the short when you see the AMPs drop when you remove the fuse whose devices are the culprit.
If none of the fuse removals make the amps drop, remove the connector from the back of the alternator. If the amps drop, you have an internal problem with the alternator that is NOT related to the diode/brush assembly, and the whole alternator should be replaced with a rebuilt unit.
Also, check the front ground attachement to the body, just below the passenger side of the radiator. There are about 5 cables attached there, and often that gets all corroded and fouled up. Remove the bolt, clean all the cables, coat with Vaseline, then reattach.
