A/C recirculating switch

Re '86 900s
After reinstalling my dash (after replacing the very hidden fuel pump relay) I find that my A/C "recirculating" switch doesn't seem to hold in "indented" (closed) position. I usually hear a "clop" when the recirculating baffle shunts off the "fresh" air flow.
I pulled the switch out of the dash (wires still connected) and found that If I squeeze the dash hold detent nubs on the switch housing , it stays depressed (closed) if I relewase pressure on the nubs- it releases (go figure). I put it back in the dash housing and it doesn't hold the depressed position.
Question - Does this switch make use or somehow engage any vacuum hose that I may have dislodged when I pulled out the dash? I'd hate to go buy another recirculating switch just to find out that it is something else.
Years ago I had similar problem involving the rear defroster switch. Bought a new one but same problem. Turned out it was the rear defroster "relay" that crapped out.
