Send it back as a core Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: How does one rebuild an air mass meter? n/m, Dishwalla, Tue, 4 Sep 2001 07:15:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
To amplify turbotom's comments - you don't. You buy a rebuilt unit (dealer, parts store, mail order) and send your old one back as a core. You probably don't have the equipment or resources to do it yourself.
OK - so what magic does the rebuilder do? I can't be sure of the exact steps, but I can guess. They'll strip out the circuit board and hot-wire assembly. The case will be cleaned and polished. My guess is that a new hot-wire assembly will be put in, but they *may* be able to inspect and clean them.
I can be pretty sure that a new circuit board is installed. Most of the problems with the old AMMs is corrosion on the circuit board, and it's easier to just plop in a new one than try and clean the old one.
For the price of a rebuilt AMM (typically about $140 mail order, from some of the fine folks that advertise on this BB), it's not worth trying to do it yourself.
