My wife and I owned an 83 900 turbo hatch and we drove it on the original turbo until over 200K miles and it was still running strong. If the turbo feels strong, that's great. Only other problem area for us was transmission work at 120K miles. Not really a problem as we were expecting transmission work at SOME point in the cars life since we drove it fairly aggressively. Ask the owner if how they cooled down the turbo. They should say they let the engine idle for 30 seconds to a minute before shutting down the engine (oil cooled turbo - car shuts off, so does the oil pump) especially after any spirited driving.
It's a great year for a 900T.
