arrrgh!
I finally removed the clutch from my '85 900T. I did use spacers to hold pressure off the pressure plate fingers. The big problem was that the slave cylinder was hydraulically dead.
Off course the cool SAAB special lever tool probably would have made this job a snap...
After many hours of messing with it, I ended up cutting off four of the spring fingers to remove the slave and clutch assembly.
The steel is quite hard. I started by drilling a line four small holes (1/8 inch dia.) across each finger. I enlarged the holes using larger drill bits. Once all holes were drilled to 1/4 inch diameter, the fingers were easily broken off using a pair of pliers.
This was a "painful" way to remove the clutch, but it saved the expense of buying tools that you wouldn't otherwise be using very often.
The flywheel seems to be in good shape. Is it necessary to have it machined? Can you get away with doing a scotchbrite buffing job?
