Heater Problem--Help!!!

I'm no longer getting heat from my heater. The shaft of the temp. control knob is still connected and I can see it turning. Although there seems to be a lack of resistance when I turn the knob. The car is a 1989 Turbo Convertible with 208K miles. Any ideas ideas? Thanks.
