many have their opinions on this. i installed a set of infinity 5 1/4" speakers in the doors just forward of the door handle (don't have manual windows so the space was open). i cut the holes and then checked the speaker clearance (i.e. window up and down). it cleared. don't remember exact depth of speakers, 2 1/2" or so. don't know how much you would need to worry about clearance down in the pocket. forget how far the bottom of the window goes. anyway, i ran the speakers off a separate amp so i still have the head unit controlling speakers in the stock locations. sounds good to me. hope yours turns out well. btw, a pain in the ass to run speaker wire into the door through the conduit. good luck.
