I had something similar happen, but it was with a switch that was a month old. I got on the road after a semi-restful night in a hotel somewhere in VA. It was kinda strange that the car was stuck at base boost and the cruise wouldn't work. It actually took 3 rest stops and crossing the PA border for me to see that the brake lights were on when the car was off.

Man, that switch gets hot when it's engaged all of the time. That made it easy to find it by feel though.

Imagine the looks that an old guy with a white beard, driving an old car with a Grateful dead sticker in the rear window gets when he's contorted himself on the floor in front of the seat of this car, muttering incomprehsible phrases like "(*#&$(@*#$^$", "I'm near New Jersey ... I wonder if Jim's place is open?" and "Where can I get M&Ms here?".

I plucked the switch out and, this being a Wednesday afternoon, I left it disconnected and hoped that nobody on the interstate would rear-end me on the way to my destination.

When I got to Syracuse, I grabbed one at the NAPA and installed it at the hotel parking lot. For good measure, I picked up a spare at the dealer the next day. Y' can't be too sure sometimes.
