Did the engine got broken?

My Saab mechanic was fixing some engine related problem. Unluckily he forget to connect back my Saab's radiator cables. I found this in the middle of the rush hour in the city with no place to stop the car, so I drove it in the nearest parking place and stopped the engine. Before that I heard many times the rattle from the engine! The engine was totally hot. I connected radiator cables back and let it cool down 1 hour before going back to street. The engine started well and no sign of loss of power.
Was the rattle noise something that I suppose to be worried?
Thank you!
