rear brakes 89 900T trouble (kinda long)

After replaceing the rear pads and rotors on my 89 900T convertible, I noticed that they are super hot, and have that burning smell. I have a Bentley manual, and followed the instructions. I didn't have any trouble putting them on either. I loosened the piston screw all the way so that the pads wouldn't rub as much. That seemed to work pretty good, but now my E brake barely works. I was going to tighten the piston screw as the pads wore down a bit. I used PBR Deluxe pads and Brembo rotors. Is this a normal thing to have happen, or should I have the caliper pistons looked at? I did the front brakes a few months ago, and didn't have any trouble at all. Any ideas as what I should do? Thanks in advance...
