Check the catalytic converter heat shield under the car above the exhaust system. If it has rusted out, heat from the catalytic converter may have melted/fused wiring that runs down the center of the car under the floor console. Fairly common scenario. The reverse light switch is located on the driver's side of the gearshift housing under the floor console. Good luck.
