Good Boost, bad hooter?

My '89 900 turbo convertible is afflicted with the intermittent rough idle / stalling problem that is so often described on this board. The AIC valve and the hooter valve are often suggested as the possible cause. I've cleaned the AIC valve but the problem persists. I'm planning on testing or replacing the hooter valve, but I'm wondering if this valve can be bad given the fact that my turbo boost is still pretty good.
