Speaking form having had 2 accidents in saabs (one rear ended, one rollover) these things are TANKS! they're great in accidents. I would think that they are at least as safe as any import of today or through the 90's...(acura, honda etc..) because we have weight going in our favor. I just heard today about someone who hit a stationary object at about 115km/h in their 89 900, and didn't get a scratch. Sure prople have unfortunately died in Saabs, but i would take my chances with them before most other cars of today.
All other things being equal, weight, design, size, the air bags would help, and the ABS would help to keep out of accidents in the first place, but i just don't feel as safe in a NG900 as i do in my C900....but that's just me
