The driver is the cup that the tripod sits in and the boot seals to. The 3 slots in the driver where the bearing 'dumbells' sit should not have any deviation, the sides are parallel. No worn pockets. Any wear will show as a vibration. The caveat according to the web pages on removing the inner driver (covered in the bentley as well) is that one side needs to be there to support the differential/ring gear. If you swap them, there will not be one side to support them. It can be done (it has been done). I am not for it, though. I suggest replacing the inner driver if it is worn. there will not be any vibration on acceleration, but any movement (on deceleration) will accelerate the wear of the inner driver. If the needles are still intact, and it is not discolored or obviously deteriorated, it is probably fine. The tripod itself is usually fine as it is much harder than the inner driver. $0.02
