The good news: I've got the driveshaft on the floor, awaiting new boots and a good cleaning... Shockingly, everything came apart pretty easily! Except I made the possible mistake of loostening the bolts that hold the caliper slide pins and outer pad... The caliper mounting bolts were a real pain to get out, and there ain't a whole lot of room for the top one, so I thought maybe I'd try to just take the outer pad off... I did manage to get the whole thing off - the tool in the trunk for lugs fits really well here, *and* even better, you can use the other tool in the trunk (pipe-like object) as an extension, and those bad boys didn't stand a chance. But I'd already loosened the slide pin type bolts, which the bentley is adament need to replaced... Soooooo getting around to my question, will I be taking my life in my hands if I don't replace them?

And lastly, thank you to everyone here! I got everything apart and out in 2.5 hours or so, which I never could have done without all the great advice here. Not to mention impressing the countless people who walked by the school parking lot asking what the hell I was up to :)
