It may be too late if you ran it until you heard noises, but it depends on what noises they were. I had same in my '87 T. I shut it down immediately and after pulling the pump cover found that the cog in the inner oil pump 'gear' was gone - and not enough pieces to indicate a sudden failure.After deciding to try with a new oil pump found that saab changed pump to have three drive cogs in place of just one. Also found no significant wear in oil pump housing. New pump and new seals - still running great 10K later, though I have reservations about overall condition of engine. I was also using Mobil 1 and figure it contributed to lack of damage. You can evaluate damage to some degree by looking at wear in cam bearing cap at end of oil system. I checked around and found that there have been enough of these pump failures for mechanics to know about it. Also seems of note that Saab changed from one drive cog to three, indicating that they found some weakness. Good luck. Recommends to Lou Baranello at SPG Saab repair in Gresham[Portland] Oregon who did the repairs.
