Dear Robert ,

I just had a wild experience with the wiring on a 91 900 S . Let me begin , my daughter can in the house one afternoon holding up her Saab ign. key and says to me the car is still "running" . Upon investigation the situation is worse they I thought. I discovered that if I turned off the headlamps the ign. would shut off. Then I discovered that if I put my foot on the brake the headlamp would come on and also the dash lights along with a buzzing noise from the fuse box. It was easy to find the source of the noise , it was the headamp relay in the fuse box. To make matters worse the car had an electrical harness melt down before we bought the car . I figured that the current problems were related to the harness problem so I proceed to strip all the plastic tape from the harness from the shifter console to up under the dash , removed the instrument cluster, and disconnected the fuse box connectors . I seperated all the wires I couldn't find anything wrong !
Now comes the weird part ! Since I was not having any luck at the front of the car I wondered if it could be back at the tail lights !!!! I removed the bulb from the third brake light with no effect . Next I removed the tail light lens and removed and problem was gone . After examining the tail lamp bulbs I discovered that someone had installed 1157 bulbs where 1156 should be . 1157 bulbs are dual filament and 1156 single filament , after installing the proper bulbs everything worked fine . The only explanation I had is that the incorrect dual filament bulbs allowed current to flow back to fuse box ! Sometimes the simple thing become difficult.
