Check for vacuum leaks first. don't listen to headgasket anythings of yet. If your car is a strong booster, look at the usual-suspect T-fittings on the drivers side of the intake manifold. The grommets that they sit in can blow out, leaving you with a unstartable situation. Also, check the brass sleeves that protrude from the inside of the throttle body. These will loosen with age. Another common blowout is the intercooler boots that connect all of your turbo piping. They can blow off or simply crack, which will make the car unstartable do to your low compression ratio. I am willing to bet that one of these is the culprit. A headgasket usually doesn't explode that suddenly, and they don't usually make that much hissing noise. They usually leak oil into the coolant and visa-versa. chck your over flow for oil bubbles. Try not to worry. It's probably very simple.
