1. The tranny may be a "weak link" in Saabs, but it is more a relative than absolute weaknesss, i.e. the car run/looks great at 120k+ but the tranny starts to fade and we all start bitching. Well, c'mon, you know; we get lulled into thinking the car's indestructible when nothing truly is.
2. The tranny in the latest gen 900's was still the original design from the 99 (circa what year?!!) with an extra gear, and only spec'd to handle about 100hp - it's no wonder turbo's chew them up. Sometimes an itty bitty company has to make use of what it has, what can you do?
Rather than moan about the tranny, I prefer to marvel at the rest of the masterpiece! Every time I disassemble Signe (dash right now), I'm flabbergasted at the attention to detail and obsessive build quality. Saab on.
